No clue about Scotland. In the states for the most part you can have your degree in any area but you must have at least a BA/BS to be a k-12 teacher. There are state mandated tests that a teacher must p to get licensed and that is how they decide if you have sufficient knowledge in the area you plan on teaching to get certified. Depending on how close you are to getting your BA in the states you might be able to get a Probationary certificate.
