Tips on how to lose weight?

So I quite drinking soda's and now Ive been drinking water, milk, and tea. I also started a 1200 calorie diet and Ive lost 6 pounds in the past month. But when I weighed myself last week I was the same as the week before. The same thing happened to me this week. I weighed 196 and now im down to 190 but can't seem to lose anymore weight. My goal through out the next year is to lose 60 pounds or try to get as close as possible. Can someone please help me? Also I wanted to try a low carb diet, like the atkins diet, but EVERYTHING has carbs in it! like a cup of milk has 13 carbs and you can only have 28.
