How do I stop painfull red bumps from "brazilian" shaving?

the day after I shave "down there" I get these painful red bumps over where the hair used to grow. It might be ingrown hairs, I don't know. There is ALWAY so many of them and they hurt, are ugly and potentially embarasing. They last about a week then once hair is quite grown back most of them disapear. PLEASE help this is a problem I have always delt with and Its getting unbearable.
